The Full Story

About Us

Michigan Hands & Voices is a community of parents, professionals, and adults who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or DeafBlind (DHHDB). We offer unbiased support, services, and events to Michigan families who are raising children who are DHHDB. We also represent families in state and policy matters. Anyone - families, extended family, professionals, students, etc - may join our membership.

Hands & Voices was created in Colorado in the early 1990s as a way to ensure families could access all the information and support they wanted, without bias regarding communication or language. Today there are more than 42 chapters across the United States and abroad. Click here to learn more about the Hands & Voices mission and philosophies.

Our Michigan Hands & Voices chapter officially began in 2015. Learn more about our Board & Staff. We started with the Guide By Your Side program offering one-on-one support. Then in 2018 we began to offer Advocacy Support & Training (ASTra) and later, DHH Guide support. Funding for Guide By Your Side is provided through a grant from the State of Michigan. Additional funding is through private foundations and fundraising.
