What is a Parent Guide?
When you first learn your child has a hearing difference you may have quite a few emotions and questions. There's no right or wrong way to react. More than 95% of parents have "typical" hearing themselves, so it may feel very new to you. Whatever your situation, most parents agree it is helpful to meet others who have had similar experiences.

This is where Guide By Your Side comes in. Our Parent Guides are experienced and trained parents of children who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deafblind. They live all over Michigan and represent a variety of different communication and language choices. We match each family to a Parent Guide based on consideration of a variety of factors.

Guide By Your Side is FREE to families.
Thanks to funding from the State of Michigan, it costs nothing to participate in the program. You may visit with your Parent Guide in person, online, or over the phone. Visits are available days, evenings, or weekends, and you may meet up as many times as you want. It's all up to you.
